GOOD TEACHING.
"Take the Lead"
This clip is from one of my favourite movies. Here you can see how Antonio Banadars' character is taking a more creative approach to teaching his students how to ballroom dance. The first inclination of this, to me, was that one of his student's felt comfortable enough to approach him with an idea that they had. This tells me that the teacher created an atmosphere that encouraged creativity and support. That the student felt they had something to contribute to their education. Even further, is that Antonio Bandaras disregards how he had planned to teach the class that day and builds upon the idea that his student had. This gives the student a sense of validation and shows the other students that he is not the epicenter of dance knowledge. There is a line that one student says to another in this clip that is "Do you like dancing?" "I guess so." "Then you were made to dance.'. This line is actually said by Antonio Banadaras' character earlier in the movie to the character that repeated it. He constantly reminds the students that they are made to dance and that they are capable of anything. also seen in this clip is every time his character encouraged an improvisation by the students on his basic ballroom dance step. He relates the dance that his student's are used to expressing themselves through to the classical art of ballroom dance; much like our discussion on relating pop music that everyone loves and listens too to classical music.

BAD TEACHING.
"Ferris Bueller's Day Off"
The economics teacher in Ferris Bueller's Day Off is the epitomy of boring. This, however is not the only reason that he is considered a bad teacher. As seen in this clip his approach to teaching was quite lack-luster and, through it's entirety, felt like he was reading a script. In real life it can be like this as well, Mark Hopkins was speaking on this during his lecture when talking about teachers using the band method books page by page rather than using it as tool on top of their own teaching plan. This economics teacher paid no attention to his students, it was very much a teacher-centered lecture. A sign of this is after he asks a question. After each one he leaves a few seconds and then answers his own questions. This creates an expectation in the students that it doesn't matter if they know the right answer because he will answer it himself if they wait long enough. It also shows us, as an audience, that he isn't there for the betterment of the students because he isn't seeing that they are obviously struggling with the content. Even at the beginning of the clip the economic teacher set up the students for disinterest by showing almost no interest himself in the student's story about Ferris Bueller in the beginning.
